TESTING, ADJUSTING AND BALANCING
Testing and Balancing plays a vital role in commissioning process of HVAC system. The proper commissioning of Air/Water distribution system is crucial to ensure the correct operation of the building which it serves, and any of the associated building services plant. It’s important that the system is balanced to deliver the design condition and optimum power consumption, which is possible only through Testing and balancing. Installation Checks

RETRO-COMMISSIONING
Retro-commissioning usually results in improved system and equipment operation that goes beyond routine operation and maintenance. It looks at control strategies, sequences of operation, interaction of mechanical HVAC, lighting, building enclosure, and how related systems affect each other. It provides a comprehensive analysis of a building’s energy performance. Recommendations are provided on reducing energy consumption and demand charges. Improved equipment performance leads to longer life spans, more reliability, fewer repairs, and lower energy costs to operate. Indoor environmental conditions include improved room temperature, relative humidity and building pressure control.
DUCK LEAK TESTING
Leakage Testing & Pressure Testing for HVAC Systems & Ductwork
We offer independent ductwork pressure testing service in accordance with BESA DW143. We test that ductwork leakage is within the allowable rates stated in BESA DW144. Our teamsare fully trained in the equipment usage, testing methods and calculations. HVAC leakage testing is a crucial aspect of testing and commissioning for new buildings as well as refurbishment works.
DW143 Leakage Testing
BESA DW143 outlines the allowable leakage rates for low, medium and high-class ductwork systems. Reeftech high sensitivity ductwork pressure testing equipment allows us to test all ductwork classes from A to D. Testing is only mandatory for ductwork classes B to D but with increased attention on building’s energy efficiencies testing of class A system may also be specified. Kitchen Extract LEV systems installed in accordance with DW172 are class A installation unless otherwise stated.
Pressure Testing Procedure
Drawings will be requested prior to works commencing in order to accurately quote for works. Tests are carried out by dividing the ductwork into manageable test sections, test sections are blocked off using reusable blocking materials such as high-quality foams. Test sections are placed under pressure, specified in DW143, results are then calculated and witnessed by the client for sign-off. All documentation is sent out electronically to all parties on the day, this includes the test calculations and equipment calibration certificates.
Resolving HVAC Leakage Issues
It will be the responsibility of the ductwork contractor to rectify ductwork leakage if it exceeds allowable limits. Traditional methods for reducing ductwork leakage are to apply additional clamps, fixings and mastic to increase airtightness. This process is time-consuming but it can make a small improvement to the overall airtightness of a system, however many areas of the system may be difficult to reach above ceilings, behind walls and other building services. In cases where access is difficult or dramatic improvement to airtightness is required then a specialist solution is needed,
